Cowlitz River - August 6th, 2013
RECORDED:    80 °    FISHING: Great
The Cowlitz is running at 2630 CFS with 10' of visibility above the Toutle and 4' of visibility below the Toutle and steady with no rise or drop.

The summer steelhead are still the main focus on the river with  a fair amount of holding fish along with quite a few dip in's out of the Columbia.

Side Drifting eggs or Prawns have been the ticket lately. Stick with two #3 vision hooks with a Yakima Bait Corkie  between them. best Corkie colors have been red, pearl pink, glow peach, rainbow and hot pink. the best eggs have been Pautzke cured in fire brine and Boraxo- fire combo in red or pink.

If you are  a guy who likes to pull plugs  then Yakima Baits Maglip 3.5 has been the hot ticket. Silver, silver/red. silver/pink, green pirate, Dr. Death, misty river and Met Pink have the best colors. Back trolling a diver and a coon shrimp has also had some great success. stick with a long leader with a pink or red coon shrimp cured Pautzke fire brine.

There has been some reports of Fall Chinook showing up already. Your side drifting with eggs will be the best bet to find these early Kings

Steelhead will stay strong for several more weeks  and the Kings numbers will begin to increase each day as we get closer to September.

Columbia River - August 6th, 2013
RECORDED:    80 °    FISHING: Excellent
The Columbia river around Longview area is running at med flow with 8' of visibility and 70 degrees.

The steelhead numbers are going strong and the King numbers are building each day.

The best Steelhead fishing has been in the deep water anchored in 30-50' of water. The best  lures have been Yakima Baits Maglip 3.5's in Red, orange, silver/red or silver/pink or Brads lighted wigglers in Red, Cerise, Red herringbone and pink/purple crayfish. Use a 2-3' dropper for your weight and a 5' leader.

Salmon numbers are increasing each day and the best technique will be to anchor fish with Simon Wobblers in the deep water. the Best Colors will be anything blue, chart/green dot, silver/chart and one of my favorites is copper/silver or brass/silver. Use a 5-8' dropper for your weight and a 5' leader.

I would wait till the numbers build a little better before the trolling will get good.

Summer steelhead numbers will be good for several more weeks and the King numbers will continue to get better each day now.

Hoh River - August 6th, 2013
RECORDED:    80 °    FISHING: Great
The Hoh is running at 1150CFS with 5' of visibility and steady.

It is mostly a summer steelhead show with a few summer Chinook around.

For the summer steelhead the best technique has been float fishing with Aero and Beau Mac Jigs. Stick with Cerise, pink, pink/white, orange/white, black, black/red and the Nightmare Jig. sticking a small piece of coon shrimp on the jig will sometimes increase your bites.

If looking for a Summer Chinook then pulling plugs will be your best bet and I would stick with Yakima baits Maglip 3.5's in the lower flows. Silver, silver/chart, double trouble, mad clown, cerise, Dr. Death, misty river and blue scale would be some of the better colors. Stick to the deeper faster holes for these summer kings.

The summer steelhead will continue to be good for another month or so and the kings will be around for a couple more weeks until the Fall kings start poking their noses in around mid September.

Columbia River - August 29th, 2012
RECORDED:    69 °    FISHING: Excellent
The Columbia is in great shape running at meduim flow with 8 ft of vis.

The kings are the Hot topic  now as they start to pile in the river with bigger numbers each day. We have been fish #5 colorado spinners on the incoming tide and then as the water starts to flow out we have been switching over to anchor fishing with Simon Wobblers.

The Simon Wobblers have been the ticket the last couple of days. Fish the lighter ones on the first part of the tide and as the tide starts to pike up switch over to the heavey model ones. Chrome and Chart, chart/Green dot, chrome blue with a chart dot, copper watermellon are all good colors just make sure there is a little chart on it.

Trolling on the incoming tide is starting to produce good. Use small spinners like #5 colorado or Bear Vally blades in Red, Chart/green dot, Half/half or brass and red have been the best colors. This will onlu get better over the next couple of days.

The salmon fishing is going to get really good over the next couple of weeks.

Cowlitz River - August 29th, 2012
RECORDED:    69 °    FISHING: Excellent
Cowlitz in good shape running at 3250cfs with 4ft of vis.

Steelhead and Kings are finning the river right now.

The Steelhead numbers are starting to slow but still plenty around to give some excitement. Been mostly sidedrifting for them with 2 #4 vision hooks and corky in red, Chart/red dot, glo green, pink, and rainbow with a small glob of Pautzke cured eggs in Fire Cure.

The Kings have started to coming in big  numbers. Most have been caught while sidedrifting for steelhead with the same gear. This will get better over the next week and then we will switch to hover fishing and back bounceing.

The next week will really pick up on the kings.
